Welcome to Term 2

Welcome to Term 2!!

I will start by sending my apologies for not keeping up to date with the blog, I have had some issues with the internet at home. I will try to keep up to date this term.

This term we are learning about natural disasters. We will be exploring how natural disasters are caused and what effects they have on people and communities. At the end of the unit, students will be excited to hear that they will be participating in some experiments. Students will be making their own volcano and cyclone. A note will be sent home soon asking if you could save two plastic 1.25 L bottles with the lids and one small (approx 600ml) plastic drink bottle for the students to bring in to school toward the end of the term. These bottles will be used in the experiments mentioned above.

Homework this term follows a similar format to last term, however the reading task has changed slightly and students have the responsibility of writing their own spelling words onto their sheet each week. Homework is still given out on Monday and returned to school on Friday.

I have been focussing a lot on sentence structure recently. The students have been reviewing  how to stucture simple and compound sentences and have been provided with many opportunities to practice. I will post some sentences that the students have written on the blog. Please encourage your child to write sentences at home and ask them to show you how they construct a compound sentence. We will be learning more about complex sentences in the weeks to come.

As you are aware Year 5 sat their Language Conventions and Writing NAPLAN tests yesterday and are sitting their Reading test today. Tomorrow (Thursday) they will complete their numeracy test.

Every Wednesday for PE this term, Sportspro will be coming to school to go though athletics skills with each class. This is great preparation for the upcoming althletics carnival.

Just a reminder that next Thursday (19th May) is our Cross Country.

I am looking forward to the rest of Term 2, I am sure 4/5 will have an enjoyable term.
